UPS and Power Backup for Offices and

Urgent Need Support?
Power cuts and voltage fluctuations are a fact of life for many shops and offices in Ahmedabad. A sudden cut can corrupt files, interrupt billing software and shut down your internet. This guide explains how to plan UPS and power backup for a small office or shop, without any guesswork.
Start with what must keep running: the billing or work PC and monitor, the Wi-Fi router and network switch, and CCTV recorders if you rely on them. Printers, chargers and other heavy loads usually do not need battery backup.
List each device and its power draw from its label or manual, add them together, and leave some headroom. A UPS is rated in VA, but the usable watts are lower, so size by watts. Decide how many minutes of backup you need: a few minutes to shut down safely is very different from keeping a shop running through a long cut.
Line-interactive units suit most desktop PCs, routers and small offices. Online UPS units suit servers and sensitive equipment because they supply continuous, conditioned power. Match the type to what you are protecting rather than buying the biggest unit.
If the router and switch lose power, your internet and shared systems go down even when PCs are on backup. Put them on the UPS as well. See our guides on networking for small offices and Wi-Fi setup for shops, and plan power points early when doing structured cabling for a new office.
Batteries age. Test the UPS on a schedule, keep it ventilated, and replace the battery when backup time drops. Our computer AMC for small offices guide explains how regular checks fit into support, and you can see our annual maintenance contracts and maintenance and support services.

A UPS (uninterruptible power supply) keeps equipment running on battery for a short time when the mains power fails. That gives you time to save work and shut down properly instead of losing files or risking drive and data damage from a sudden cut.
Add up the power draw of everything you will connect, such as the PC, monitor, router and switch, then choose a UPS rated comfortably above that load. Ratings are usually given in VA, and the real usable watts are lower than the VA number, so check the watt rating on the label.
Avoid connecting laser printers to a UPS meant for computers, because they draw a large burst of power while printing. Use a separate outlet or a UPS sized specifically for it.
Line-interactive models suit most desktop PCs, routers and small offices. Online (double-conversion) models give cleaner, continuous power and are chosen for servers and sensitive equipment. The right choice depends on what you are protecting and the quality of your local power.
UPS batteries wear out with age and use, and the usable backup time drops over the years. Test the UPS regularly and replace the battery when runtime becomes short or the unit gives a battery warning.
